About Emanuel Lions & Emanuel Rugby Club

Who Are We & What Do We Do?

The Emanuel Lions Mini & youth Rugby Club is part of Old Emanuel RFC, which was founded in 1910 and matches were originally played on a ground in Earlsfield before our current home at Blagden Road Sports Ground was established in the mid 1920’s. Barring the two world wars this club has played continuously since its inception and celebrated its Centenary Season in the 2009/10 season.

Our grounds benefit from three fine pitches, one with flood light facilities, as well as gym facilities and a clubhouse. The senior first team plays in Surrey League 2; we also have a second and third team forming the senior part of the club.

The Emanuel Lions Minis were established in 2006, with mini and youth teams from Under six to Under thirteen, and has grown every year since. It is made up of children from the surrounding community and is dedicated to promoting a friendly, enjoyable and challenging approach to rugby, the world’s fastest growing team sport.

The principle aim of the “Lions” is to gradually introduce local children to the game of rugby in a safe learning environment. Not only do we have training sessions run at our club but we also run community rugby sessions with local schools, scout and cub groups.

A Game For All Weathers?

In general there is very little that will stop rugby being played! The most likely problem is with "the wrond sort of snow" (this is a winter sport after all) or flooding either of pitches or of the ancillary facilities like the car park.

Where pitch inspections are required these will happen at our club before 9am and an update will be posted on this website, our Facebook page and an email sent advising what will happen. Some team managers are also trying to set up a text group to make contacting you easier and more convenient but please check the other avenues as well.

If you haven’t heard by 9am, or need to set off earlier than that, then contact your coach or your team manager. If you haven’t got contact details then ask for them all are happy to give out their numbers and will not bite.

For festivals or friendlies with other clubs try checking their websites first. They tend to work in the same way and will post a cancellation notice very early on their websites.

The Mantra (learn it, love it, do it!)
